iPhone 4: Thoughts and Concerns
Posted on June 14, 2010 by d3so
Next week, the iPhone 4 is going to be released. I plan on getting it but not anytime soon because I currently have an iPhone 3GS running on the T-Mobile network. As you’ve probably noticed, my iPhone is jailbroken & unlocked which means I’d have to wait for the iPhone 4 to be unlocked (I believe in the Dev-Team). Another obstacle to overcome is the Micro-SIM. I’ve seen videos of cutting standard SIMs down to Mirco-SIM size but I’m kind of worried I’ll mess up. Anyone know if T-Mobile uses Micro-SIM cards? The price isn’t going to be reasonable buying these phones without a contract but you get what you pay for, right?
Considering the iPhone 4′s new features, Apple took it to the next step.
Flash for the camera? FINALLY! I was hoping that Apple would surpass that new droid phone that has an 8 megapixel camera but sadly the iPhone 4 will have a 5 megapixel cam, which isn’t bad at all.
- The two-cameras will make it easier for us to take conceited photos of ourselves put up on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, etc.
FaceTime video chat is going be real interesting, haha. I wonder if they’ll integrate a community interface such as Stickam or Chatroulette .
Retina Display? We’ll see how this looks when I get to see it for myself.
Mulitasking is not new to me and I bet Apple will limit which apps can be run on multitask. I use Backgrounder a jailbreak app, and it works great. The only thing that would make it better is if my iPhone had more memory.
HD Video Recording, nice, now I’ll probably be able to use it for video blogging especially with the new iMovie app which lets you edit your videos with more features.
Folders for Apps (not new to me), and iBooks (I admit it’s kinda hard reading books on the iPhone) is also going to be included.

That’s a nice list of features. I really can’t wait until this gadget is in my hands, others could care less. I was hoping for a higher storage capacity and we’ll still be limited to 16 or 32 (this is not enough space for movies, music & other stuff). As usual, they’ve promised improved battery life. I’ve heard that the iPad battery was pretty good, maybe we can expect the same for the iPhone. I’d like to leave the floor open for discussion. Will you be getting the iPhone 4? What are your thoughts?
P.S. You see the the KISSinsights box that says “What other information would you like to see on this page?”. Please input here topics and suggestions I should write about for future posts. Thanks!

I think the new iPhone may be better for eBook reading on trains and such, due to the high resolution. Hopefully that the smaller screen dimensions do not matter.
The battery life on the iPad is good because it is much larger, so the battery can be much larger. The new iPhone has a slightly larger battery than the old one, and has the more efficient Apple A4 CPU (same as the iPad), so I would expect slightly better battery life, although that could be offset by the multitasking a bit (although no difference in that respect for jailbreakers).

Hey d3so,
A real review would be great. I definitely do want iPad but I'm not so sure about iPhone.
I've seen iPad demonstrated and have tried to use it when a friend showed it to me.
Everybody seems to like iPhone but for many functions that it has extra besides the ability to phone the iPad seems better to me.

This new iPhone looks pretty slick. Too bad I'm locked in on a 3 year with a Blackberry or else I would get one.

Dang! Those contracts are killer. I'm on a 2 year contract with T-Mobile. I'm hoping the iPhone 4 will be able to run on it.

I looked through their corporate site then contacted one of their vice presidents and called her and requested a evaluation unit.

I'd prefer to get an iPad instead.
Having all these options and apps on the phone is nice but the screen is still quite small compared to the iPad.

I prefer to have both; the ipad replacing my iPod touch.
I need the iPhone for it's phone features and for business; it's portability makes it easy to carry around unlike the ipad. I would use the ipad for leisure activities such as reading, games, movies, etc.

Hi d3so,
I've now seen the iPhone 4 very closely and I definitely want one. You can take very good videos and upload them to YouTube with it.
As much as I like iPad and still really want one, I now want the ne iPhone as well.

Side by side the iPhone 4 is consistently better than the 3GS. Best has 1990 down and 875 up. Worst 321 and 171. Emails and things like Maps just seem to work the same as usual. Never checked this stuff before today so do not know if it has changed.

That's what happens when you take a bite of the forbidden apple. My brother wanted to give me an Iphone, but I said no because I'm perfectly fine with my Nokia. Love my phone because not everyone has the phone I have.

I don't really care if everyone has an iPhone. I know how to "unlock" my iPhone's potential. I will stay with the iPhone because it has a huge community base & support.

Apple's launch of the iPhone 4 has seen the greatest excitement for a new phone ever – and with HD video recording, a super high-res screen and ridiculously slim dimensions.
